KISS

So we recently attended the KISSpdx conference which is all about creating a sisterhood or support group along with keeping yourself and your business sustainable by taking care of yourself. It was a great reminder of a few things for us that I want to remind you of also!      www.kisspdx.com

1.    1.  Take time for yourself! Chances are you’re at the bottom of your own list but it is seriously important to take time to rejuvenate yourself. Everyone around you will benefit!
2.   2.  Eliminate some stress from your life! I have written on here before that stress makes you fat, wrinkly, and gives you a dull complextion—not to mention its horrible for your health! So get rid of a few stressors in your life! See your blog from way back in January for more on that. J
3.   3.   Love yourself! It’s so much easier for other people to love you when you love yourself!

Doing these things will not only help you feel better…but in turn you will also look better! Feeling good is looking good right??! Yes! Do something for yourself today…your body and your complexion will thank you!

Acupuncture-- Healthy Weight Control

So with summer around the corner I have been hearing everyone buzzing about their newest weight loss scheme to get their bodies summer ready. Have you thought of using acupuncture to get ready for summer??

There are many reasons people become overweight - hormone imbalances, slowed metabolism, overeating, poor nutrition and lack of exercise are some of the most common.
Using acupuncture to tackle weight loss is a multi-pronged approach.

Help reduce cravings- During an acupuncture treatment good endorphins are released...same as the effect when you eat sugar or carbs. Get this effect from Acupuncture instead of unhealthy food!

Boost Energy- Acupuncture is a HUGE energy booster. With all this extra energy take your workout 30 extra min...or make it to the gym in the first place!!

Manage Stress- OK, you're stressed. Do you reach for a nice salad or a pint of Ben & Jerry's? I'll bet on the latter. People experiencing chronic stress tend to crave more fatty, salty and sugary foods. This includes sweets, processed food and other things that aren’t as good for you. Also stress alters your hormone levels leading to more fat! Acupuncture is an excellent way to manage stress, leading to a stop to stress eating.
Balance Hormones- It is almost impossible to lose weight when your hormones are out of balance. Ladies.....wonder why you gain that 5 pounds around that time of the month? Out of balance hormones can cause weight gain. When you use acupuncture to keep your hormones more level and balanced throughout the month you will not see as much of the up and down weight gain.

Releases endorphins- As mentioned above during acupuncture treatments, endorphins that make you feel happy are released . This can lead to less sugar cravings and a feeling of overall wellness and health.

This is not a quick fix or an unhealthy pill, but it is healthy and effective!
Pair regular acupuncture treatments with a healthy eating plan, herbs, and exercise to get ready for summer!

Ampoules

I am super excited that I just got a whole order of ampoules in! What the heck is an ampoule you ask??? :)  An ampoule is a little glass vial filled with a concentration of active ingredients for facial treatments. These vials are filled with different botanical extracts, vitamins or enzymes. They contain a higher content of nutrients than any cream or serum and are made with smaller molecules to penetrate deeper into the skin.

So here are the ampoules I have and love!

Anti-Couprose Ampoule: for couprose and rosacea skin types. this ampoule not only strengthens capillaries but improves circulation, reduces inflammation and has skin regenerating properties.

Borage oil Ampoule: All skin types. Borage plant contains the highest amount of amino acid omega 6 found in plants which increases elasticity, and heals & strengthens natural barrier functions.

Collagen with C + E + S Marin Complex Ampoule: Best for Mature skin types. This marine ampoule contains collagen, marine elastin and sea silk that revitalizes and improves the moisture content of the skin.

*Hyaluronis Acid Ampoule: (My Fav) For mature/aging skin types. This ampoule contains just the right amount of hylouranic acid to be effective on the skin. Hyaluronic Acid has excellent water-binding capabilities, allows the epidermis to achieve greater suppleness and proper elasticity, and is considered to be a "fountain of youth" ingredient.

Propolis Vitamin A ampoule: Oily/combo/acne skin types. The ampoule has healing and antiseptic benefits that are excellent for intensive treatment of problem skin.

All of these ampoules are great add ons to a facial for a little pick me up for your skin or the day of a big event to give your skin a little extra glow. You can add on an ampoule for $10 in any facial treatment with me.

Acupuncture & Menopause

Check out the story ABC news recently showed about acupuncture treating menopause symptoms. While they are reporting on a recent study done, Chinese Medicine has been treating these symptoms successfully for thousands of years.  In my own experience, most patients do see impressive results from acupuncture and Chinese herbs to relieve menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings. I would like to share a few specific situations in which my patients found acupuncture and Chinese herbs helpful in controlling their menopause symptoms.

One patient I treated had been on hormone replacement therapy for years and wanted to stop taking these medications. As an acupuncturist I cannot tell patients to change dosage or stop medications, so this patient was working with her PCP doctor as she completely stopped taking these hormones. Her doctor was happy to help her do this, but predicted that she would have to go back to the original dosage because he felt her symptoms would come back. When she first stopped the hormones, she had a lot of hot flashes throughout the day and some fairly severe night sweats a few times per night. However, this patient was determined to use alternative therapies that were more natural. Three months of acupuncture treatment and Chinese herbs did allow this patient to stay off the hormone replacement therapy and use only an over-the-counter hormone cream. After those first three months of acupuncture treatment, she noticed less frequent and less severe hot flashes and rarely had any night sweats. The acupuncture also helped a lot with her anxiety. She reported that the acupuncture and herbs didn’t give her the complete resolution that the hormone replacement therapy gave her, but it did make the symptoms tolerable. That allowed her to stay off the medication, which was what was so important to her. This patient also realized that she had been on the hormones for many years and that it would take some time for her body to adjust and balance. She continued treatment of acupuncture and herbs which continued to reduce her symptoms.

Another patient turned to acupuncture and Chinese herbs as soon as her first menopause symptoms showed up. She first went to acupuncture for symptoms of severe night sweats that would come on about once per week. For this patient, she only received acupuncture treatment once per month and was given a general Chinese herbal formula in pill form to Tonify Yin, but that was enough to stop the night sweats. As she progressed through menopause she continued to receive acupuncture treatments as needed and continued the herbal formula. Today, this patient has few menopause symptoms, but she reports that when they do pop up at times she is able to take the herbal formula again for a short time and resolves the symptoms. Plus, she still receives acupuncture regularly to keep overall balance in her body. This patient is glad she was able to use the natural treatment of acupuncture and herbal medicine to keep her menopause symptoms to a minimum.

As with anything, treatment and success depends on each patient’s specific situation, needs, and goals, but I hope these examples help to show how treatment of menopause symptoms with acupuncture can and has been used in real life in my practice. Menopause symptoms can be very uncomfortable and distressing for women, so I strongly encourage anyone experiencing them to give acupuncture a try!

I recently started using my ANSR  LED light more consistently and fell in love with it.  This is such a good product that I am so excited about… I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you!

The ANSR produces narrow, light wave spectrums created by high-intensity Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that are absorbed by
skin cells. The light waves are converted into chemical energy, which
initiates good changes on a cellular level. The ANSR has both blue and red lights in it.

BLUE light waves are precise wavelengths of light
energy selectively delivered to the targeted area beneath the skin to
kill the bacteria that causes acne. One of the reasons the blue light is so amazing is that it can kill the Acne causeing bacteria without causing dryness, redness or pain like you get with some acne treatments. It is soothing instead of irritating!

RED light waves are longer wavelengths that are
able to deeply penetrate into the skin stimulating the collagen to
create new, healthier cells. New cell growth rejuvenates the skin, evens
out skin tone, reduces redness and pore sizes and improves skin texture.

For acne skin it is so beneficial to use both the blue and red light teamed together. The blue light will target the acne causing bacteria, and the red light will help to heal the skin, reduce scaring, and help with skin texture.

If you have mature skin the red light is amazing to build collagen and rejuvenate your skin. In your 20’s-40’s ?? The ANSR is the best way to prevent wrinkles, collagen loss, and age spots. Being preventative is the best way to approach skincare!

LED therapy is not a one time deal. The ANSR can be used 1-2 times a day every day in your home. For professional level LED treatments a series or keeping up by adding it into your monthly facial will show you results.

                                                    Erika, 37 years old
As a full time ad executive and mother of two, Erika wanted something easy to use that produced results. After hearing about the ANSR: BEAM from a friend, she decided to give it a try. Within a month, Erika saw a more even skin tone, tightening of her skin and less noticeable pores. Just 5-10 minutes every night and Erika could tell a difference. “It’s your own private shape up facial” I can’t leave home without it!” Even compared to laser treatments and other wrinkle reducing products, Erika says this one is her favorite. “It’s the best anti-aging device I have used yet!”

                                                  Dianna, 42 years old
Dianna suffers from both fine lines and uneven skin tone. Although preventing wrinkles is important to Dianna, so is maintaining clear skin. Within the first week of using both the blue and red light of the BEAM, Dianna noticed the redness starting to subside. She was developing clearer and smoother skin. However, on days she forgot to BEAM, she would “…experience breakouts and more redness.” Dianna typically uses the BEAM twice a day and even takes the BEAM camping with her! When asked what she thought about the ANSR: BEAM product, she said, “ANSR: is going to keep people guessing my true age.”

 I Love it!...and it actually works! :)
